Supprestral injection
Medroxyprogesterone acetate exerts a luteinising
hormone effect on the uterus which maintains the
uterus in the progesterone stages of post-oestrus
and dioestrus thus lengthening the oestrus cycle
and delaying the return to oestrus or heat.
Active Ingredients:
An aqueous suspension containing 50mg/ml Medroxyprogesterone acetate.
Indications:
Postponement of heat (travel, show, hunting).
Suppression of heat at pre-oestrus.
Nervous lactation.
Treatment of behavioural problems in cats and dogs.
Mode of Action:

Contra-indications:
- Any uterine infection.
- Any abnormal or persistent vaginal discharge.
- Oestral abnormalities causing irregular heats, ovarian tumours.
- Pregnancy.
- Recent surgery of genital tract.
- Mammary tumours.
- Diabetes mellitus.
Dosage and Administration:
BITCH: 0.5 – 1.5ml according to size.
CAT: 0.5 – 1.00ml according to size.
Intramuscular or subcutaneous injection (refer to full data sheet in vials).
Toxicity:
None.
Adverse Effects:
There may be loss of hair pigment around the site of the injection with sometimes an indurated nodule if by subcutaneous injection. Sometimes a weight gain is noticed. Occasional temperament changes and nervousness are noted. Uterus may become enlarged with a thick, mucous, translucent exudate.
